Zonguldak Karaelmas University was established with the 9th Additional Article of Law No. 3837, which was published in the Official Gazette dated 11.07.1992 and numbered 21281 and entered into force. The name of Zonguldak Karaelmas University was changed to “Bülent Ecevit University” in accordance with the 18th Article of Law No. 6287, published in the Official Gazette dated 11.04.2012 and numbered 28261. With the 6th Article of Law No. 7141, published in the Official Gazette dated 18 May 2018 and numbered 30425 and entered into force, the phrases “Bülent Ecevit University” in the title and first paragraph of this article were changed to “Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University”.

The roots of the Faculty of Engineering, which constitutes the core of the university, are based on the Mining Engineering School (High Mining and Industrial Engineering School). This school, which is the first college of the Republic of Turkey to train mining engineers, was established in 1924 by the decision of the Ministry of Trade, considering the insufficiency of the number of "Turkish Mining Technical Personnel".

Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University, whose roots go back to Yüksek Ma’adin Mühendis-i Mekteb-i Âlisi (Higher Mining Engineering School) founded in 1924, has registered the year 1992, which is seen as the foundation date, as 1924 with the decision of the University Senate in 2023, the 100th anniversary of our Republic. It has been decided to change our corporate logo due to the fact that we are updating our foundation date and celebrating the 100th anniversary of our University as of 2024.

In this context, first of all, the outer part of our Logo has been determined as red, representing our glorious red flag and the blood of more info our martyrs. The red color also represents energy and ore due to Zonguldak being the energy base of our country due to its rich coal and natural gas reserves. It also symbolizes the energy of preparing our valuable students, each of whom we describe as a separate ore, for the Century of Türkiye.

At the center of our logo is the “Uzun Mehmet Monument” built by the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises in memory of the 50th anniversary of our Republic. This monument is known as the “Uç Mehmet Monument” in our city. Mehmet the First symbolizes the martyred soldier Mehmet, Mehmet the Second symbolizes the martyred miner Mehmet, and Mehmet the Third symbolizes the first victim of the mines and the legendary martyr, Martyr Uzun Mehmet. This monument located at the center of our logo was designed in turquoise, a combination of these two colors, to emphasize the image of “The City Where Blue and Green Meet” used in the description of Zonguldak. Turquoise is also known as the “Turkish” color worldwide. Thus, our new logo, created with the turquoise colored Uzun Mehmet Monument, the book placed under it representing our University, and the red color on our outer perimeter, shows that we always protect our mission of protecting our flag, our glorious history, our martyrs, and the natural beauties of our homeland.
